UK WEE Directive 1st July 2007
WEEE Regulations 1st July 2007
As you are probably aware the new WEE regulations have come into force from
the 1st July 2007. This covers the safe recycling of lamps and
fittings.
All lamps affected by the WEEE directive now have to be recycled and the
manufacturers and importers of these lamps are required to ensure that the
cost for treatment and disposal is covered. In order to meet this
requirement there is now an additional re-cycling flat fee of 15p added to
the cost of each lamp.
The lamps that incur this charge are:
Metal Halide (HTI, HMI, MSD, MSR, CDM, CSD, CSD, CSS, BA, HIT etc)
Mercury Discharge (MBFU)
Low Pressure Sodium (SOX)
High Pressure Sodium (SON)
Fluorescent Tubes (Standard, Compact and UV etc)
The fee for Fittings and Luminaries is set at 20p
As VAT is applicable to the recycling charge this fee has been added to the
cost of each lamp and fitting.
Distributors and Wholesalers are under no obligation to take back used
lamps; it is the responsibility of each end user to dispose of these lamps
and fittings correctly. Recycling and collection centres are being set up
and more details can be found at www.recolight.co.uk
